Hot girl summer is in full effect and I'm here to give you the scoop on how we're upgrading our makeup routines. On top of being carefree and securing our bags, I want to be sure we're also caring for flawless skin and taking on this summer makeup trend: pops of neon.
If you're not living in California like me, you're probably experiencing all the hot and humid 90 degree weather. Regardless where in the world you're currently residing, here's a list of products that are summer friendly and easy to apply for a quick on-the-go look:
HUDA BEAUTY NEON Obsessions Palette ($29) IS THE SHIT. HANDS DOWN. I f-ing love it. This palette comes with nine neon shades in each palette and there are three different neon palettes to choose from: orange, pink, and green. I own all three and if I had to choose just ONE, I would go with neon orange. The neon orange palette has a lime green shadow and two pink shadows which essentially gives you a blend of all three palettes in one. The color pay off is AMAZING. With or without an eyeshadow primer, it is still true to color. Each palette has a few shimmer/iridescent colors that you can layer on top of the matte shadows. It's so much fun to play with. I'm legitimately obsessed with the neons. I honestly can't believe Huda was the first to really make a neon-themed palette line. If you buy this palette or already own it, send me photos of your looks. I love looking at neon focused makeup looks <3
IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ ($39) is a lightweight foundation that helps blur imperfections while still giving you protection from the sun! It's a win, win. One pump gives you naturally flawless coverage and two pumps gives you full coverage for the entire day- with a great primer, this foundation easily lasts you 12-14 hours (I've tried it and I stan!). It works for all skin types and has ingredients like collagen, peptides, and hyaluronic acid which promotes skin elasticity, reducing appearance of wrinkles, and locking in moisture for a more youthful appearance. I've switched over from my Mac Cosmetics Face & Body which I've been using for YEARS so you know this is a game changer. If you use my skin tone as a reference, I've color matched myself to "light". The only downfall of this product is that there aren't many choices for deeper skin tones. If you can't seem to find your match with this product, I suggest looking into CoverFX Power Play Foundation.
Kevyn Aucoin Glass Glow Face Liquid Highlighter ($32) is magical. This product gives off a wet/dewy look (pictured above) while still giving you some coverage. It can be layered on top of foundations but anything too oily won't work well. I've mixed this product with L'Oreal's Infallible Pro Glow foundation ($8-$12) and they work well together for both coverage and dew. This is a great product to wear alone during a summer day or to the beach for a light sheen of dewiness and I love that it truly lasts. It is imperative that you cleanse and moisturize before putting this product on to ensure longer wear. Passionfruit oil is a main ingredient in this formula which gives your skin a smooth feel and hydrates the skin.
Natasha Denona Blush Duo ($38) comes with a bold and subtle shade in each duo for a soft and bold look. The duos are designed to be mixed together or worn separately but the reason why I love them is their soft and silky texture. Natasha Denona seems to design her face products to perform for a more natural, softer consumer. I've found that it is definitely buildable and lightweight so it can be worn with or without any face makeup! The shade ranges for light to deep skin tones which is a plus!
LANEIGE Lip Glow Balm ($15) is literally what I wear all day, everyday! No BS. I have these stashed everywhere so I'm always prepared (my room, bathroom, purse, car, gf's house, lol!) no joke, I've been obsessed with keeping my lips locked with moisture. I swear by Laneige lip sleeping mask and is still a staple in my kit and my personal makeup bag, however, these lip balms are a bit more convenient because I can apply it right on my lips and not have to dig into a jar and apply with my finger (like the lip sleeping mask). These lip balms come in four different scents and colors which are Berry, Peach, Pear, and Grapefruit and all smell so so good. My model pictured above is wearing the peach lip glow balm.
Fenty Beauty Poutsicle Juicy Satin Lipstick ($20) have been my go-to's this summer for my clients. The formula is creamy and sheer when you first apply so if you're looking for a wash of color and lots of moisture, this is your lip!! It's buildable which is great if you really want a bold look but I love it because essentially you could use it for day and night wear. The color seems to stain the lips after 2-3 hours so reapplying it will give moisture on the lips but still giving you a soft or bold look- whatever you desire. I used Sun Snatched (bold orange) on my model pictured above right on the center of her lips. I wanted a soft, very juicy lip with some color but I wanted the focus on her eyes so one application worked in this instance.
Helen E Cosmetics Neon Pure Pigments (PP4 Neon Orange pictured above; $10) these pigments are true to color and the brightness of the neon isn't lost once layered on top of an eyeshadow base or mixing medium. It's important to pat these pigments onto the skin to prevent fallout and and to assure an even application. Although this product requires a bit more time to apply, the duration of it is what got me. I wore a neon eye for 14 hours and it lasted all day without creasing. My favorite eyeshadow base to use with this specific product is Mac Cosmetic's "Painterly" paint pot. It's tacky enough to grab on to the pigment to ensure it sticks. If you're a little darker than I am and still would like to try this eye base, try "Soft Ochre" if you're more on the yellow side or "Groundwork" if you're of a deeper complexion (tan, dark, and deep). The color pay off is amazing and it's not overpriced, which I love. My first time playing with these neons were for this shoot pictured above and I was so impressed!
